I started by laying out my numbers on the 1x8 and measuring how long to cut my wood. I then took this piece of wood to my miter saw and made my cut.
For the pattern I used the 1x3 boards. I wanted these to be long enough to cover the entire length of the base so no extra smaller pieces were needed on the border, so I cut these a little longer to be safe.
Once all those pieces were cut, I sanded everything to 220 grit, popped the grain, and sanded again at 220.
To start my pattern I marked the center of my wood and drew two 45 degree lines to line my wood against.
I then layed out my pattern a few times to ensure I knew how I wanted it. The first two pieces are the most important as they set up the entire pattern.
I lined these first two pieces with those lines and had the ends just hanging off the base, this was so the corners of the base were completely covered.
I then secured the pattern with wood glue and my brad nailer.
Cutting the ends off of is a little tricky because there is no straight side to line up against your miter saw. I took my time lining up my blade with the base of the wood and ensuring the cuts were straight.
I then filled all the nail holes with wood filler, and sanded everything one more time at 220 grit.
For stain I went with Minwax Early American, a favorite of mine! After the stain dried I sealed the wood with Minwax Spar Urthane.
To ensure these numbers were on a straight line, I put down some masking take and then finalized the spacing between all the numbers.
Screw the numbers in with the screws they came with and there you have an easy DIY Address Sign!!
